# Foodi - The first descentralized eating network for *foodies* built on DeSo

# I. What's Foodi?
Long story short, **Foodi** is the first decentralized eating network for *foodies* in the world.

But what does that exactly mean? **Foodi** is a decentralized app built on the DeSo blockchain, that allows customers and restaurants find themselves and interact without the need of a third party (no Google, Trip Advisor, Uber Eats or Social Media giant in the middle).

Foodi is a DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization) and is not owned by any corporation, joining and using the app is free both for customers and restaurants, without any third party getting a cut from profits made by its participants.

The brand **Foodi** was born as a shorter version of the slang *foodie* (a person keenly interested in food, especially in eating or cooking).

# II. The *"Where do we eat?"* problem
Currently, there's a few popular solutions to tackle the *"where do we eat?"* problem, all of which we believe have issues.

## Solution 1: Search reviews on Google, Open Table, Trip Advisor, Yelp or similar
Have you ever reviewed a restaurant on any of those platforms? Do you even know how to give a review?

According to several studies, reviews on all of these types of sites can't be trusted because they are biased; people are much more likely to leave a review when they’ve had a bad experience. 
There's no real incentive to give positive reviews, because people just don't have the time or don't care (even though they do have time to take 10 different pictures of the amazing food they ate to post an ephemeral Instagram story!).

Also, it was found that reviewing platforms have an in-built bias towards popular restaurants.

## Solution 2: Influencer recommendations
You understand how influencer marketing works right? Influencers get paid to eat and promote restaurants that they don't necessarily like in their social media accounts.

The bigger their following, the more money they can charge brands to promote their businesses; so that's definitely not the best way to find your next out-of-this-word gastronomical experience.

## Solution 3: Friends recommendations
We agree that friends recommendations are legit and they are one of the best ways to find a great restaurant to eat. After all, you're taking the advice from people you trust that actually ate at the restaurant. Unless they don't like you, they wouldn't have incentives to give you a bad recommendation, right?

However, you know how easy it is to forget a friend recommendation? Unless you are extremely organized, you will not find the chat or notepad where you wrote the freaking name of that restaurant when you actually need it! 

Additionally, maybe there's a better nearby restaurant that many of your other friends loved, but you currently have no way to know it.

With the current technology breakthroughs of blockchains and DApps, we are certain that there's a better way to solve the *"where do we eat?"* problem.

# III. Solution Overview
As we already covered, **Foodi** has the mission to create a decentralized foodie network that connects customers with restaurants and makes it easier to plan and decide where to eat.

Leveraging on the cool features that decentralized social media and blockchain technologies bring to the table, Foodi is building an incentivized ecosystem for participants to join and give honest reviews to discover the greatest places to eat on the planet. And this is just the beginning, using NFTs and the $FOODI token, we are going to make it easier than ever for participants to create value and transact with each other!

## Trusted reviews - The foundation of Foodi's solution
**Foodi's** solution is based on the principle that reviews and recommendations from known friends, trusted influencers and foodie experts are the best source to find your next great restaurant to eat, so our initial focus is to make it easier than ever to get those reviews, and DeSo plays a big part to accomplish this.

## Shared Social Graphs
A social graph illustrates interconnections among people, groups and organizations in a social network; putting it simply, is a map of who you follow and who follows you.

Unlike centralized social media apps like Meta, social graphs on DeSo are shared by all of the apps on the blockchain. This means that any of the current DeSo users* that connect his/her account to login to **Foodi** will be able immediately to share their check-ins and restaurant reviews with all of the followers they already have. 

This translates to leverage on other successful DApps built on DeSo, to potentially onboard the next million users to **Foodi** with ease and speed, and without writing a single line of code!

## Default DeSo incentives
One of the coolest features of DeSo is that it allows users giving tips to other users for creating content. What content? Any type of content! From "Tweets" on Diamond, to future restaurant reviews on **Foodi**, any user that perceives value in a content created by another user, can give them tips with the $DeSo token.

Additionally, every user on DeSo has by default his/her own creator coin, which appreciates in value every time a follower buys it. This translates to people investing in creator coins they like & see growth potential.

Therefore, *foodies* will be incentivized to give good, honest and thorough reviews of restaurants, to grow their following base, receive tips and appreciate their creator's coin.

## $FOODI incentives
$FOODI tokens will be a key component to grow the Foodi ecosystem; you can read the full details below, in our tokenomics section. 

Since we are a DAO, owning $FOODI tokens grants the holder voting rights and submit proposals that will determine the future of **Foodi**.

On top of the default DeSo incentives explained above, foodies will get $FOODI rewards for writing reviews, and restaurants will get $FOODI rewards for joining our network. The rate at which rewards are given will be adjusted over time, but it will follow a decreasing curve that gives greater rewards to our early adopters.

# IV. Features for *Foodies*
Here is a first top level overview of how you will interact with **Foodi** as a customer and what you'll be able to do:

- Mobile first, you'll be able to download the **Foodi** app for Android and iOS. A web version might also be available upon launch, but the focus will be launching the mobile apps first.
- Advanced search of restaurants based on location, food categories and relevant filters, including "spending mood" (budget, tasty, fancy).
Search results by:

**Relevance**, including reviewed / recommended restaurants from other users you follow in your network. This feature will allow you to see where, when and what your friends & contacts ate!

**Trending**, showing restaurants climbing in popularity.

**Promoted**, with restaurants offering special discounts and perks for **Foodi** users.

- See the full menu of restaurants, including the ingredients and the reviews of specific plates.
- Check-in at a restaurant and make reviews of the place, the food you ate and the service.
- Use $FOODI and NFTs to get discounts and special perks.
- Tip your waiter using $FOODI. 
- Earn $FOODI rewards by completing tasks (more on this in the $FOODI rewards section).
- See a geographic & chronological map with the restaurants around the world you've ate, plus other cool stats comparing with other friends & users you follow in your network.

# V. Features for Restaurants
Here is the top level overview of how you will interact with **Foodi** as a restaurant owner/manager and what you'll be able to do:
- Mobile first, you'll be able to download the **Foodi** app for Android and iOS. A web version might also be available upon launch, but the focus will be launching the mobile apps first.
- Create your restaurant profile, hours of operation and upload pictures and videos of the place (a DeSo account will be linked to every restaurant location).
Upload menu with pictures, prices and ingredients per item.
- Create and sell NFTs for promotions / discounts to attract customers, getting $FOODI token rewards in return.
- Advertise in the "promoted" section of **Foodi**, using $FOODI tokens.
- Dashboard with analytics of customer visits, most liked items, reviews and benchmarks with your competition.
- Next phases: sell subscriptions to customers, accept crypto payments and offer $FOODI tokens to influencers, to share the content you want on-demand (certified influencers that match the profile you need, get displayed the offerings/content you create and decide if they want to post it!).

# VI. Tokenomics
$FOODI is a deflationary token, with a total supply of 1 Billion, distributed as follows:

- Seed, Private & Public Sale: 200 Million
- Founding & core team: 100 Million (24-month linear vesting)
- Advisors: 50 Million
- Liquidity: 80 Million (to provide liquidity at exchange listings)
- DAO Treasury: 230 Million (payroll, marketing and other expenses)
- $Foodi Rewards: 350 million (read the next section for more details)

The goal of this Seed fundraising is $200,000 and a max total of 13 Million $FOODI tokens will be sold, starting at $0.01 each and increasing 5% after every $10,000 raised.

The $FOODI token will have plenty of utility inside the **Foodi** ecosystem, both customers and restaurants can earn and spend $FOODI rewards!

## Customers
**Earn by:**

- Check-in & eating at restaurant
- Completing reviews
- Completing foodie challenges (i.e. visit 3 restaurants in a city)
- Friend referral conversions

**Spend on:** discounts on bills, buying NFTs that unlock perks.

## Restaurants
**Earn by:**
- Accepting $FOODI to give discounts on customers bill
- Creating and Selling NFTs

**Spend on:** running advertising & promotion campaigns on **Foodi**.

By design, all transactions between parties have a 10% tax that will be burned, making $FOODI a deflationary token.

# VIII. Launch strategy and Roadmap
One of the key factors of success of **Foodi** (or any new social media app) is designing a smart onboarding strategy to kickstart operations, which allows us to attract enough users to reach critical mass and grow exponentially.

Therefore, we've designed our growth strategy in 3 stages.

## Stage 1: MVP development
Efforts on this stage will be focused on product development of an MVP (minimum viable product) of **Foodi's** mobile app, that allows us to show case it to potential restaurants and consumers.
Getting their feedback is crucial to guarantee there's product/market fit and that we deliver a product that delivers superior utility (value), and has great UI & UX.

*Even though dates might be adjusted, we are aiming to finish the MVP by the end of Q2 2023.*

## Stage 2: Ambassadors & Restaurants onboarding
Before Foodi's app officially goes live, we need to make sure there's enough restaurants onboard with their profiles set, to be useful for consumers; otherwise, it will not result in a positive user experience and activation/retention efforts will be in vain.

We will recruit brand Ambassadors that believe in what Foodi is building and that are willing to put on the work to close strategic alliances with leading restaurants in key cities, that have high volume of tourists and foodie culture.

Ambassadors will activate and train restaurants, benefiting from:
- $FOODI tokens for every restaurant that signs-up and completes their profile. 
- $FOODI tokens for every consumer that check-ins & eats at one of their activated restaurants, during the first 6 months after activation.
- TBD: if necessary, payment in stables using Foodi's treasury

*We are aiming to run Stage 2 from Q2 to Q3 of 2023.*

## Stage 3: Foodi go-live
This stage will be focused on releasing Foodi's app to the public and executing the marketing strategy, deploying $FOODI rewards as an incentive to join and participate in Foodi's ecosystem.

# XI. Why DeSo?
There's many reasons why we decided to build Foodi on top of the DeSo blockchain, including:
- Most of current L1 blockchains, such as Ethereum, Avalanche, Polygon and Cardano, were built for finance DApps and is extremely expensive to store large amounts of data on-chain; whilst DeSo was specifically built for decentralized social media and is able to store cheaply on-chain vast amounts of data, including images & video.
-DeSo shares a single sign-on by all of the DApps built on top, allowing a user to maintain all of its followers/following in every new app that is launched, which gives us access to millions of users from day one. There's already hundreds of DApps built and gaining traction on DeSo, many of which replace popular centralized applications like Diamond (Twitter), Entre (LinkedIn), Openfund (GoFundMe) and Vibehut (Zoom). 
- The development speed of new DApps on DeSo is vastly faster than in other L1 blockchains, since DeSo already provides a full set of APIs to perform common social media actions, such as likes, following and posting information into the blockchain. Also, you can interact with the DeSo blockchain using familiar programming Web2 languages like Javascript, Python, Ruby on Rails, and more.
- Ultimately, we strongly believe that centralized social media is broken, companies like Meta, Twitter, LinkedIn and TikTok are the sole owners of your information, followers, posts, etc. They make profit selling your data to third parties and can shut down your account whenever they want.
